Advanced Functional Trainer – Performance

Training clients for performance is tough: it involves getting your clients, who are already good at something, better! To be good at something, you need to have the ability to repeatedly and consistently produce an outcome. However, the better you are at something, the easier it will be to cover up any deficiencies you have biomechanically and still produce a result. The short term effect of any cover-up will be a slight change in performance, the long term issue with this could be a complete loss of form, or injury.

Unlike with AFT Therapy, where the client comes in with a diagnosed injury that produces a pattern of dysfunction, when training clients for performance you are going to be faced with a client that is adept at hiding their deficiencies and so you may need to tease the left/ right imbalance, strength or range issue.

In AFT Performance we show you how to work on a skill that the majority of people can do to the standard of ‘athlete’ so we look at walking. The course is set out to show you how to understand the principles behind FASTER’s training thought process, how to carry out an assessment, with solutions applied directly to the client, and finally how to bring this alive in your programme.

This course is taught live, where we use other movements as well as walking to demonstrate conclusively that the thought process works across all movements.

  • The FASTER training system
  • Breaking down a movement
  • The HMAC Micro
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Average
  • Assessing – the theory

  • Specific and Vague Changes

    Advanced Functional Trainer – Therapy

At FASTER we respect the fact that as a Personal Trainer you cannot speed up the recovery of an injury (in fact many therapies are about reducing the effects of the injury or protecting the injured site, rather than treating or fixing the area.

You can make sure that the client does not lose as much – or in some cases any – conditioning in areas of the body that would become weak, and while doing so, you could help reduce the chances of the same injury recurring, or a secondary injury arising from overuse of other body parts.

We only ever work on clients with diagnosed injuries, who have been cleared to train, and we never work against the advice of the qualified medical practitioner who has diagnosed and then assisted the client.

When working with an injury, we look at the effects the compensation pattern, caused by protecting the injury, will have on the conditioning of the rest of the chain. For example a dislocated shoulder would have a detrimental effect on the thoracic spine, by reducing the amount of rotation and lateral flexion it goes through daily.

In order to see this working you need to be familiar with our functional training approach to promoting motion, muscle reactivity and biomechanics alongside some injuries and how you would compensate around them.

This is our live two day course.

    • Principles of Function
    • Joint Movements
    • Exercises Creation
    • Injury Definition and Consequence
    • Muscles in Function
    • Exercise Building
