Advanced Functional Trainer
Group 2 Day course. Training clients for performance is tough: this course shows you how to assess and solve dysfunctional movement. In AFT Performance we show you how to work on a skill that the majority of people can do to the standard of ‘athlete’ so we look at walking. The course is set out to show you how to understand the principles behind FASTER’s training thought process, how to carry out an assessment, with solutions applied directly to the client, and finally how to bring this alive in your programme.
Diploma in Functional Performance
Personal Destination – You will understand so much about human movement that, by the end of the course, you will be able to predict and create motion at every joint, use every training tool on the market, understand any new training tool, and be able to programme for any movement requirement of any client. This will make you the most confident trainer in your area. The skills you acquire will make you so proficient that you will be at ease training anyone who comes your way. This is all done by teaching you the FASTER thought process, and then putting you into many problem-solving situations, to allow you to develop your own style and confidence.
Designed for – Therapists, Trainers, Strength & Conditioning Professionals and anyone involved in movement.
Time to destination – 3+ months, depending on how hard you work
Route to destination- 6 modules, 9 individual units and a minimum of 6 meetings or days.
Module 1 – Observe and Predict (uncomfortable)
This module features FASTER’s key learning aid, the HMAC IV (Holistic Movement Assessment Chart Three). This is where you will get into the detail behind bone translation, rotation, bone speeds and resultant joint motions. This module is tough. It will test your ability to watch motion, and it is also the reason we give you an iPod with the course. This is so you can film the motion and slow it down to see the motions that actually happen and compare them to the ones you expect to happen.
Module 2 – Mastering the Hips (uncomfortable)
Module 3 – Mastering the Foot and Ankle (uncomfortable)
Module 4 – Mastering the Thoracic Spine (starts to make sense)
Module 5 – Mastering the Knee, Lumbar and Shoulder (it all falls into place)
Each module follows the same pattern: we look at the three functional ways of getting each motion at each joint. We then look at all the combinations of planes of motions for each joint, essentially leaving you having moved each joint in every possible way!
The next stage is to look at every muscle that goes past the joint, and how it is affected by the movement. This will allow you to hit any muscle in the body, in any exercise and – in cases where you need to – it will show you how to avoid these muscles too. Once you have a thorough understanding of the movements, we move on to look at assessing each joint in motion (several motions) and how to solve a lack of motion, using everything from training tools to hands-on techniques.
Module 6 – Mastering Tools and Mastering Programme Design (makes a lot
of sense)
It is Module 6 where we show you how to put it all together in order to design the best training programmes for your clients. It will be here that you learn how to use any training tool, even before you have seen it, just by knowing how to employ gravity, momentum, ground reaction and elasticity.
We also take you through the formatting of a programme, to effectively order the exercises and then deliver them with appropriate intensity, volume and rest time, in order to get a result, both within the session and then over a period of time. This is what will bring the whole course together, and help you become the trainer you want to be.
New to 2012: three bonus modules covering Marketing, Selling and Coaching.
Assessment
Over 80 videos of assessment required, with tasks for each module. You will be left with not only a full understanding of movement, but also the best movement analysis and marketing material you will ever get from a course!
